Can I have a look at one before buying?

Yes! We have one child sized top on display at the Learning Needs Library, Sydenham Christchurch. Feel free to go in during the library’s opening hours and have a look.

What is the difference between men’s and women’s style tops?

Men’s style tops are longer and have a higher neckline. Women’s style tops are shaped, while men’s style are straight from armpit to hem.

Why do your tops cost what they do?

Making clothing with the seams and neckband style we use is a LOT of work. That’s why they aren’t done on clothes you can buy in shops. It takes around three times longer to make one of our tops compared with a normal t-shirt, possibly more. We also have to pay for the materials used. The prices listed are already discounted by quite a lot to make our clothing more accessible to those who need them.

Why are larger sizes more expensive?

The fabric we use comes in a certain width, and in most sizes the two body pieces can be cut out side by side to minimise the length of fabric needed. In the larger sizes this isn’t possible so a lot more length of fabric is required to put one above the other. Some businesses make all sizes more expensive so they are all the same price. We have decided not to do this to keep the cost down as much as possible for as many people as possible.

How do I place an order?

To make an order you can fill out the order form (click order now on the page of the product you want to order), email us, or send us a Facebook message.
Once we have all the required details you will receive an order confirmation with payment information and estimated time for your order to be ready (usually 4 weeks from date of payment). If you accept the estimated completion date you need to pay for your order (by bank transfer). Once your order is paid for we will buy the fabric and begin to make your order. Once the fabric is purchased you can no longer cancel your order, and once it has been cut out no changes can be made.

What are your shipping and packaging details?

Orders are packaged using recycled materials to minimise our impact on the environment.

Shipping is by NZ Post and costs $8.50 for New Zealand towns and cities, plus $5.70 for rural delivery if required.

Shipping to Australia will be calculated individually for each order, but NZ Post estimates approximately $20NZD.

For those in Christchurch pick up is available from the Learning Needs Library in Sydenham, during their opening hours (Tues & Thurs 10-4.30, Sat 10-1). You will be emailed when your order is ready for collection. Please note we are separate organisations; library staff and volunteers will not be able to answer questions about orders.

What fabrics are your products made of?

The fabrics we list on our website are EcoVero Viscose fabric which is 95% viscose and 5% elastane. It is softer than cotton, a little heavier, and has a smoother, smarter look. It has just the right amount of stretch and is breathable and comfortable. We can also make our tops out of a fabric of your choice – see our colours page for more information, and contact us with any questions.

What are the care instructions?

It is best to wash your garments with a cold, gentle machine wash, or cold hand wash. Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry clean. Cool iron if needed. Headbands can be washed with your clothes as above, but we recommend putting them in a delicates bag to keep them safe.

Are there tags on your clothing?

It is a legal requirement that any new clothing sold must have care instructions, country of origin and composition permanently attached to it. We put a lot of thought into how best to achieve this, while not making our products uncomfortable for customers. Some clothing has this information printed on the inside of the garment, some have tags. We decided to use tags, because printing is very difficult to remove for those who are irritated by it, whereas tags can be removed when needed. We have attached our tags with a separate line of stitching, so they can be safely removed by cutting the stitching on the label, without damaging the structure of the garment. We have included the care information on a card with your clothing to keep near your laundry detergent if you do remove the tag. The tags are of a high enough quality that if you do leave them attached they will last for the life of the garment.

What patterns do you use for your clothing?

The patterns for our tops are adapted from patterns by LittleKiwisCloset.
